Gang, There's a HUGE "BATTLE OF THE BULGE" Event this week (Jan 22-27) at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.
(Near Harrisburg) This is the LARGEST WW2 Reenactment in the USA with over 1,500 Authentic WW2 Reenactors.
Heck, there's probably enough WW2 Weapons, Tanks, Jeeps, Half Tracks & Uniforms to be the 3rd largest Army in the world!! A great place to bring any WW2 Vets if You're in the area...

The Base is Open to the Public & the Event is Free. There's a Big Public Battle on Saturday that's really cool.
There's an awesome WW2 Flea Market in 8 seperate buildings. It's the best around!!
Saturday Night there's a HUGE Wild WW2 USO Show with dozens of WW2 Veterans in attendance. Wow, Those cats really know how to put away the booze!! "Wild Bill" Guarnere & several other Original "Band Of Brothers" Vets usually show up to the Event. Naturally, they get treating like Royalty. Sorry, No Warbirds, but that kinda makes the Battle more authentic. There's always plenty of WW2 AAF, RAF & LUFTWAFFE Renactors to talk to. The authentic WW2 AAF, RAF & LUFTWAFFE Barracks are a real time trip. Don't miss visiting them & bring a camera!!
Always plenty of great WW2 conversations & stuff going on...

Here's the Official "BATTLE OF THE BULGE" Event Website with directions & info.
It's like a Big "WW2 WOODSTOCK" with Guns & Beer instead of Drugs & Music...

See You there, I go Weds thru Sunday:

www.wwiifederation.org

Here's a few Photos of past "Battle Of The Bulge" Events:
It's very authentic, although the U.S. Army probably didn't have a Big USO Show with the SS & Luftwaffe afterwards!!

Check'em Out:

pretty cool equipment and uniforms! quite the collection. however i dont think that one of those overfed, middle aged, wannabee weekend warriors would last a night outside in pennsylvania, let alone a few weeks in belgium being shot at, being cold and no food. i know that its all meant to honour the memory of the vets, but i wonder what the vets think when they see this costume show.

Actually, Most don't mind...
Not even about the German Reenactors. Many actual "Battle Of The Bulge" Veterans show up, so We must be doing something right...

However, Some WW2 Vets aren't very nice towards the Reenactors.
I've heard stories that Chuck Yeager & now Dick Winters find them to be annoying wannabees ... Digger

It looks interesting, but I have kind of wondered about that, too. It may be that some of the reenactment stuff takes it a little beyond ostensibly legitimate attempts to tell the history for the sake of trying to tell the history of what actually happened such as through serious written histories like "An Army at Dawn," "Day of Battle," etc. and documentaries like the "The War," and productions such as "Band of Brothers" and "Flags of Our Fathers," etc. But to each his own I suppose.

By the way this subject probably really should have been brought up in the "Military Matters" forum. Not criticizing, just an observation since the organizers have done an excllent job of setting up forums to cover several discussion areas beyond "warbirds."
