Source for cockpit lights?

Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:09 pm

Does anyone have a source for some cockpit lights? The little red lights that go over the gauges on the cockpit instrument panel. I think they were originally made by Grimes.

Help?!

If they don't have it, it hasn't been made.

Why do I have a feeling that this is going to end up in the cockpit of a nice looking rod? Sounds cool if it is.

While we're on the topic of cockpit lights...
I know places like Aircraft Spruce remake the Grimes C-4A cokcpit lamps, but does anyone know of a source for originals?

Also, does anyone have leads on grimes C-8 lamps?

Their for the L-5Gs...

Hi,

Type in the Grimes, AN or NAF number on google you would be surprised what shows up. Check Jays site http://www.warbird-parts.com/

Thanks Mike

I got 4 beautiful, new grimes lights on ebay. I used "cockpit lights" under search. These were brand new, in a sealed box, marked AUG 1971. Mine came from Ho Chi Mihn City Viet Nam!!! Leftovers. I paid around $70.00 per light. These are really nice!!!

I knew I could count on you guys! Looks like Banaire is going to be getting a phone call. And as a super cool added bonus, they have some knobs that I need to replace the ones in my '36. Awesome!

What's a '36?

He's restoring a B-36? A-36? P-36? Or more likely his 1936 vintage hot rod!

Oops! Yeah, 1936 Ford. I replaced the original knobs with radio knobs because I wanted the lights, wipers, heater, etc, to rotate rather than pull out. The radio knobs aren't holding up though because I had to use industrial switches that I got from a Caterpillar supplier. They have a 1/4" post, so I had to drill out the radio knobs. That severely weakens the knob and they crack. These aircraft style pointer knobs (similar to what I have seen in FiFi) work with a 1/4" post, so I think (hope) my problem will be solved.

The lights are going into "Back Seat Betty". The owner can't read the fuel gauge at night. I've posted pics before. Do a quick search.

For some added trivia... the ashtray used in a B-29 is the exact same ashtray used in '35/36 Fords.
