Roger on the noise! Have you ever been overflown by a B-52 scramble? Talk about shaking the earth! Probably old hat to you AF buys but to a civilian taken off guard it's mind boggling.
RE 52's coming out of fomer Bergstrom AFB, Austin, Tx.

Go you one Better very late 70's early 80's F-4's ' tree top level coming over me while we were fishing about 85 miles north west of Bergstrom AFB on their way home. I swear you could see the pilots smilng as we hit the deck  ! it was awsome sight to see 8) I sure would like to see F-4's flying like that again !

I can recall living just north of the former McCoy AFB in Orlando in the late 50's-early 60's. The SAC squadrons there were originally equipped with the B-47, then changed over to the B-52 about 1960. When they had a scramble there would be a stream of aircraft, one about every 30 seconds. They were about 1500 feet up, and the sound was unbelieveable. Noise and great clouds of black smoke.

Loved it !

I'll concede that one to you Glen! How much element of surprise was there? Where were you fishing? One of the Highland Lakes?

I was fishing years ago on Sam Rayburn with our local bass club, it was a flat no wind Sunday morning and we were in a small cove that had a peninsula wrapping around most of it. We heard a jet and we all looked up and there was an F-4 boring in on us, there were four boats line abreast. We watched him come screaming in on us in a dive and then he flashed over us, I swear he was less than 100 ft high. He pulled right on top of us into about a 45 degree climb and went into burner. The noise hit us in the back as we watched him climb. One of my buddies lost his balance and barely kept from taking a swim. It was GREAT !!
