Hi Guys, :)
This is my first post and my first request for info. Don’t know if this is the right section, but here it goes: my father flew a P-40 (sorry Mustang guys) back in 1942 and to celebrate this I was thinking in building him an instrument panel. I already gave him an A-11 clock, which still keeps good time for a 60 year old clock. I know I can buy most gages in eBay and other aviation sites, but have not found the instrument panel itself. Is it difficult to find something like this? Perhaps pay someone to build one without the instruments? Or is this idea to farfetched? I’m absolutely clueless. Since this is, by far, the largest aviation forum I have found, maybe some of you folks can shed a light in my request!
Thank y’all,
Sean.

Sean

I'd suggest you try Ben Saunders at ben.saunders@saerodesign.com for the panel, he's probably got some spare?

For the instruments, instead of ebay, I'd recommend either:

www.warbird-parts.com
or
www.bjaircraft.com

Good luck!
Jason

Welcome Sean, glad to have you in the group.....so far, I haven't found any "Clicks"....If there is a question that you have regarding the field of Aviation, guns, ammo, and modeling (not to be confused with modeling clothing or stuff like that), this group of people here have the answers, or know where to send you for an answer.
Please do fill us in on your Dads history in the military, and the building of the Instument panel for him is a terrific idea....I'd love to have one of the B-25 for myself, as it is as close to a B-25 as I can get to touch around here. The "nearest" B-25 is a hundred miles from me and is a ground gripper, stuck in a museum.

You guys are pro and what else can I say. With the information you gave me I can start any project! My father initially began with fighters and ended up with bombers, primarily B-25’s (my avatar is his plane) and B-17’s. But this is a long story. So one thing is building him a '25 or '17 panel and the other is building a small fighter panel. Although I haven’t seen any '25 for sale, I saw a '17 on eBay selling for $2,200.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/B-17-WWII-INSTRUMENT-PANEL-EXC-ACCURATE-COMPLETE_W0QQitemZ320204191358QQihZ011QQcategoryZ4721QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And the Magneto Switch Panel for $1,275
http://cgi.ebay.com/FINELY-CRAFTED-B17G-WWII-MAGNETO-SWITCH-PANEL-SET_W0QQitemZ120103830559QQihZ002QQcategoryZ585QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m118

And even a full size poster for $119.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/B-17-B17-WWII-Aircraft-Instrument-Panel-w-Gauge-Gages_W0QQitemZ330201490671QQihZ014QQcategoryZ20143QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Cheers, :D
Sean.

PS. Jack Cook, I sent you a PM.

Glen Haven! Talk about "small towns". My favorite way to ride up to Estes Park.

Welcome to the board.
