Mohawk based at Lago Vista, TX?

Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:56 am

My landlord told me that over the Christmas holiday, he saw an OV-1 Mohawk at the Lago Vista, TX airport.

Anyone has seen it? Any photos? Any data on it?

Just curious.

There's a Mohawk in Amarillo, TX. It was an old NASA bird that was at the museum there that just closed down. I saw it sitting out on the ramp at the Bell plant around Thanksgiving. It may have been relocated though.

I should be able to get over there this next weekend (Jan 12-13) to look around - it'll give me a great excuse to try out my new camera!

Tulio,

Definately NOT the Cavanaugh Mohawk. That is currently in Hanger 2 at the CFM in Addison, and has been "down" for maintenance for about 3 months.

I'm not sure I'd like to fly a Mohawk off of that hill. Not a lot of options and when that twin went down he went into a house !

Not sure about the OV-1, but it looks like there are about 6 Fouga Magisters there and an F-4. See:

Looks pretty small for those kind of jets... 3800' for them?

What I gathered from what the guy told me -although he did not clearly stated it- was that this Mohawk is privately owned.

I am surprised -thank you, Ryan- to see the Fouga Magisters there; this and the Mohawk make this airfield a must visit for the near future : )

Thank you all for your info and offers to go and take a look-see.

Tulio,
Magisters have been at Lago Vista for many years - I first saw some there with Lone Star Aviation in March 2003. They have been listed in the last two editions of my "USA Military Out of Service".

Perhaps there are some pics out there. Also, I'm still planning on heading out there this coming weekend to take some pics.
