Why are they talking so much in a warzone?, in a battle you remain quiet shut up and dont rabble on.

Guess then again thats why Britians have lost wars thru revealling their presences..

Most normal smart soliders in CAS are quiet and withdraw carefully so not to expose their positions...

And which wars would they be ??

Perhaps the Brits are working on the premise that the A10 might have impaired the Taliban's hearing a little bit and whilst the attack's underway they probably won't be heard.

The same ones where we continually lose men to "friendly fire" perhaps?

I mean really - this shows a US warplane mistakenly shooting at friendly troops - and you are whining because they are talking too much? Unbelievable.

You have NO IDEA what this video shows, so please refrain from making such a comment.

You don't know how far away those bullets impacted.

You don't know where the enemy troops are.

You don't know what the JTAC called that A-10 in on.

There is a Grand Canyon's worth of difference between shooting "near" friendly troops and shooting "at" them. Unless you know what is going on in the ground situation and in the air situation in this video, I suggest you keep ignorant comments like that to yourself.

Sat Jan 05, 2008 1:59 pm

Are you blind? You could see exactly how near those bullets were.

As for "my" ignorant comments. Really Randy WTF?? Wake up and look a bit higher up the thread.

Nope, not blind at all.

I have, however, strafed in combat in Afghanistan and I know there is a lot more to every situation than can be gleaned from watching one videotape on the ground.

I dare say you are right. It was never my intention to put any blame on the pilot, or start an argument about who did what wrong. It can´t be an easy job.

What annoyed me were the idiotic comments of the second poster, concerning a potentially, and in this case apparently very nearly lethal situation. Theres just no need for remarks like those.

If you think fighting war is idiotic you HAVE a LOT of growing up to do.

How is talking in a war in during CLOSE fightning which the taliban are in Afghanistan (if your not fully aware)... going to be helpful?

I have heard of US, Dutch and Australian units in Afghansitan calling in CAS and not carrying on like these silly Brits did.

Ive spent 4years in Army and i can tell you where i served YOU keep your MOUTH shut and dont carry on like a frigging 18yr in a candy store.

Military operations are screwed up when people talk and carry on. Maybe you forget that the key to winning wars is to be unseen and not heard.
Talking and carrying on is how the enemy looses.

If you sir, wish to fight a war yabbling and rambling on be my guest, I would like to be no where near you in a firefight and CAS.

If you think that video is a msitake in CAS, i suggest you do some reading from CAS in Korea and Vietnam.

At time Mk82 bombs were dropped to within a few hundred feet of friendlys. Strafing was carried out even closer when in desperation. I have read of bombs been dropped within 150ft of friendly troops by F-100s in some bad tushy CAS.

The A-10 shown attacked the target FULLY aware of the British troops. So next time you blabber your mouth of i suggest read some army manuals on how warefare is fought and pay attention instead of slanging off at soemone on a forum who knows what proper Army procedures should be conducted like.

Remeber in warfare you survive longer with head down and mouth shut!

HGUCSU, your implication is that the British Armed forces are un-proffessional. Anybody who has worked with the Brits will know that they are some of the most proffessional Armed forces in the world !! Their record in Afghanistan proves that.

They certainly did'nt beat the communists in Malaya by jumping up and down like school girls. Now stick that it your pipe and smoke it !

Speaking of making too much noise, I guess there was enough chatter about the video to get it pulled for a service violation. The above link does not work any more.

Here's a link that still works, though...

And here's another kind of A-10 close call:

You put a soldier with a camera on his hands. He’s young and so are the others. Target is far away. They are excited. They are better equipped. They are better trained. Situation may not pose as a threat. The wind may be blowing their way. They have that “Let The Bodies Hit The Floor” feeling. I have seen rambling in my days. So I quite comprehend their attitude, and believe me if you want, but they are not unprofessional. When some different situation arises and it poses some kind of threat they’ll surely be as quiet as they can be and you won’t hear a needle falling in the ground. Ok, it’s sand, but…

Cheers,
SC.

I've learned a bit about CAS in the last 6 years. I've spoken with the FAC's, fast movers and grunts on the ground. All were very busy when doing their jobs, and all did them well. Friendly fire has been around since the first cave man swung his club, the target ducked, and he whacked his buddy.

Read some of the FAC books from Nam ( A Lonely Kind of War, Naked in Da Nang are a few), and find out more about it. I is sad when a good guy dies, whether or not by frienldy fire or enemy action. Many heros are dead thanks to friendly fire, Mike Strank, one of the flag rasiers on Iwo is one that comes to mind.
