How long did the invasion stripes stay on? I've seen post D-day pictures where the top sections of stripes were painted over and Jack posted the other day of A-20G Havoc over France in Aug 1944 that looks like it never had stripes applied. But then I think I've seen pictures where aircraft wore some variation of stripes to the closing of the war.

What gives on the stripes?

If you go by today standards everyone had them painted on
and all p-51s were were painted blue camo

Scale modelers sometimes crack me up even tho I indulge in the hobby too. Contests and magazine articles abound in laying out and executing 'perfect' invasion stripes, when in most cases the crew chief got two buckets of paint, two brushes, and a rough idea of what to paint in what layout and where the evening of June 5th. As this photo, the one of the A-20, and one you ran about 6 weeks ago of the razorback P-47 with the stripes roughly painted out are the real deal. If you want perfect stripes laid down, hire Chip Foose-

Interesting question, who, what was the decision to fly a D model or B or C model? ... I see razerbacks and bubble canopy's, who would get bubbles first? was it a choice by each individual pilot? .... I would think all pilots would want the bubble canopy's over B's or C's ASAP

I understand the argument for a blue Lou... but why are they never the same shade as the supposed blue photographs?

BTW, the current blue mustangs flying around are one of my favorite schemes, accurate or not.
