I have finished the Colorado section of the Locator. I have a number of questions for which I would like to have answers for, so I now turn it over to you...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=CO

I have made some improvements to the Locator recently. If you follow the link above then scroll down, or click the “Jump to Results Map” you will see a map of Colorado with all of the aviation locations known to the Locator plotted out on the map. You may find this map useful, I have.

Also if you follow the link look for the big red + signs on the right side in the location listing and read the request for help messages. If you have any info to contribute just click the red + and you will be taken to a form where many of the fields will already be filled out but you can also provide corrections and/or new information. I have also included Locations I need help with in a “Need Help List" below. The goal of this exercise is to…

#1: I try to make the map links as accurate as possible. In other words I would like to see all map link accuracy indicators in the green.
#2: Improve the data for all locations.

Exact locations are preferred (but not necessary). If you know the exact location but don’t know how to get the coordinates all you need to do is…
- find the map in via the link above
- zoom in on the map to where the site is
- click Satellite or Hybrid mode if it helps find the site
- place the hand marker over the site and right click on that point
- the coordinates of that location will appear in the info window, you can copy them to the clipboard

I am looking forward to any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

EDIT: The "Need Help List" has been moved to my most recent post in this thread.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

There was a Skyhawk at the Colorado Air & Space Museum (formerly Wings over the Rockies), however I believe it's since moved.

I've never heard of any such museum, however a web search appears to point towards it being located in Watkins, CO. Again, I'm not sure where it would be located in Watkins as there's no references in the phone book and the address listed is a PO Box.

The Colorado National Guard had an OH-6, 2 or 3 UH-1s, and an OH-58, but they were moved during the reconstruction activites and I haven't seen any evidence of them since 2004. I have never seen a T-6 on display.

No. The only C-130 on the airport is the NCAR/NSF (National Science Foundation) C-130. It is an active aircraft.

Also, you list Q G Aviation at Fort Collins Downtown. That airport was closed in August of 2005.

http://www.airportjournals.com/display. ... al/0508040

Ray Middleton relocated the shop to the Ft. Collins-Loveland airport.

Bill Greenwood still uses him for the Spitfire. Bill, is Ray still using the name "Q G Aviation" or is it a new name now?

I too have not heard of such a place.
But like CapFlyer... after a search it appears to be some type of corporation.

Denver Aerospace Science Museum
Watkins, CO 80137-7181
United States

You may want to add Gordon Pages's "Spirit of Flight" center that they are creating.

this MAY be a reference to the museum on base at Peterson AFB wanting to move outside so more people can visit. Planned to be at the NW corner of the airfield landside.

this was an A-4 at the Wings Over the Rockies museum (I think) - don't know if it's still there.

there is also one at Watkins although not on display or visible.

mrhenniger wrote:

not a museum as such but a company set-up in order to be able to operate aircraft in the way that the CAF etc do with their B-17s when selling rides.

no C-130 displayed but a C-130 based belonging to NCAR

not at the airport but in the industrial part of the town - has been there forever. I do forget the address however but can find it by driving - not a lot of help I know.

http://www.skippyscage.com/aviation/co/ ... index.html - A-26 is slides 3 and 4

I’ll add a note in the comments indicating this museum once had an A-4 in the collection. They still have a website indicating they are the “Wings over the Rockies Museum”. Were they actually formerly the “Colorado Air and Space Museum”?

Thanks for the team effort on this one. I am changing the entry so they map pointer is in Watkins, rather than Denver. I suspect though they would operate out of the Aurora Airport (~2 mi west of Watkins). Can anyone confirm?

I bet it was your site where I originally heard of it. Do you remember in general what part of town it is in? You might remember if it is north of a highway or in a particular suburb, etc. Sat images are not too bad for that area. I might be able to spot it if I can reduce the size of the haystack.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and contributions!

Mike

QG Aviation (Ray Middleton and Tim Fries) is still located at Ft. Collins Downtown airport, 3V5. It did not close in 05, I had my annual done there that year. A developer bought this private airport and marked it closed 12-31-06. I flew my Spit out that morning. The runway is still there and is used by some private planes. This time the annual has been done about 12 miles south at Loveland, FNL. Downtown was a great airport. I don't knwo the developer, may a large, heavy, hard piece of blue ice fall on his head.

I don't know of that Aerospace Museum, however Watkins is a very small town about 35 miles east of Denver. Just west of it is Front Range Airport, pretty large and active gen aviation so maybe it is there.

It's on a pole at the corner of Peterson and Stewart. I'll look to see if I have a picture somewhere. There may also be a plane at the corner of Soffort and Stewart.

Cool. I misidentified that one as a T-38. It will be corrected in the next upload.

bluethunder28 wrote:

If you mean Suffolk and Stewart, then it is a F-102.

How accessible are these airframes to the public? With the museum on the base you might think the public would be able to view them.

Mike

Here is the latest revision of the “Need Help” list…

#1: Basalt - Apparently there is a T-28 being restored in Basalt. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#2: Canon City - Apparently there is an AH-1 displayed in Canon City. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#3: Canon City – In addition to a F-4, a T-33 has been allocated to the Col. Loe Sidney Boston War Memorial Park, but may not yet have arrived. Please inform Aerial Visuals when it has arrived by clicking the red + to the right.

#4: Colorado Springs - Apparently there is an Air Service Museum in Colorado Springs. Can you confirm? If so map reference is needed. Where exactly is the museum located?

#5: Colorado Springs – In addition to the other numerous airframes displayed, there may be a F-86 Sabre displayed as well. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#6: Colorado Springs, Fort Carson - Sources indicate the Third Cavalry Museum has the following airframes in the inventory; B-52, F-104A, F-105D, F-4, GF-16A, H-34, AH-1, SV5-J, T-38 and X-4. Can you confirm?

#7: Colorado Springs, Fort Carson, Butts Army Air Field - Apparently there is a H-6 and H-13 displayed in the area. Can you confirm? If so where exactly are they? Are they accessible to the public?

#9: Colorado Springs, Peterson Field, Peterson AFB - There may be a second T-33 stored on the field. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#11: Denver – A better map reference is needed. Which building is the B-52 Billiards Bar in?

#12: Denver – A better map reference is needed. Where exactly is the Colorado Military History Museum located? Do they have any aircraft in the collection?

#13: Watkins - A better map reference is needed. Where exactly is the Denver Aerospace Science Museum located?

#16: Denver, Westminster - There may be a C-60 displayed in Westminister. Can you confirm?

#18: Gypsom, Eagle County Regional Airport - There may be a H-58 displayed at the airport. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?
