WOW!
I never thought of those two a/c in the same airspace.
Really shows the different design concepts pretty well.
Thanks again Jack.

It's a great picture alright, unfortunately it's not real.

This was posted before in higher resolution and if you open it up in photoshop/corel etc. you can see the slight halo of non-matching sky color around the B-47 where it was cut and pasted onto the photo of the B-49.

Connery,

I'll never be able to find the evidence, but I think that picture IS real. The photo was taken over Washington D.C. during the competition for the bomber contract. Northrop and Boeing were going head to head and this fly-by was set up by the Air Force to give the Congress some eye candy. The mission was launched from Andrews AFB and they made several circuits around the Capitol.
I think the photo I have seen was in a '70s Air Classics, Wings, or Airpower that is in a box in my shed. I could certainly be wrong, but that is one of the advantages of being old.

Both aircraft show sign of editing. Could be 2 separate shots combines into one for a magazine. It's standard practice.

real or not, it is too bad that the issues with the YB-49 could not be worked out. It was a really cool plane and jsutthink how much further it would have put the US in "stealth" technology!! LOL

Unless they were at idle they also would probably show some black smoke.
Every other picture or film of the YB-49 seemed to show black smoke.

Just like the f-4 you plug in the burner and the smoke disappears  8)
