Could that number on that P-36 be 153? I've tried to do some research with David Aiken on the markings. A few of those photos I've actually never seen before. I'm always on the lookout for Wheeler Field shots. In case a photo reviels a aircraft number.

I thought they changed the name to "The Pacific War Museum" (or something similar.)

A year or two ago there was an e-mail making the rounds (a co-worker forwarded it to me) claiming to contain photos from the attack found 60 years later on an undeveloped roll of film in a veteran's footlocker after he died. Many were actually well-known national archives photos, and in order for one person to take them all, he would have had to jump around the area at several times the speed of light.

It's interesting to note how the clean-up crew pushed the two B-17D nacelles up next to that sandbag revetment in photo 13.

Nathan- hard call on that P-36 fuselage number in photo 16, huh? Why does the hidden numeral always have to be 0, 3, 6 ,8, or 9? Also, in that same photo, I found it interesting that a P-26 should rate hangar storage. Could it possibly have been someone's "personal" aircraft?

Many people don't relize that the USS Arizona is still considered an Active Ship of the Fleet. The flag pole seen at the memorial is actually attached to the ship it self, and they raise and lowere the ships flag, with the same ceremony they do on an active ship.

I got to tour the memorial in 77, while TDY to the islands.

Today is also the dedication of the USS Oklahoma memorial. She lost 429 souls that day, second only to the Arizona. The state finally got some money together a few years back to have a memorial built.

A-7D, the Short Little Ugly "Flyer" and A-10A Warthog, weren't called an ATTACK plane for nothing. Remember for a little relief on the ground, call your local Air Force to "Go Ugly Early"!

One of the hangar shots looks to have a P-26 in it amongst the P-36s. Interesting.

Never Forget.

When I went with my Dad, I am not ashamed to say that I got a little teary eyed. It was very humbling. I read and studied WWII since I was 6. To actually stand there over the Arizona... words can not fully describe it.

Along with the P-36s there were active duty P-26s in Hawaii and the Phillipines at the start of the war.
