Anyone remember the movie or show, maybe "Rat Patrol" that had the damaged P-40 being chased in the African desert by a German tank?

The pilot was Doug McClure I believe. Lloyd Bridges was the tank commander.

If I recall correctly, the P-40 had a damaged wing and coudn't fly, so the pilot could only taxi until the engine overheated, then shut down and wait for it to cool off before proceeding. I believe the German "Tank" was actually an armored car, but I haven't seen the flick in probaly 30 years or more.

There's more info at IMDB.com: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069953/

Funny enough I remember that movie. I should watch it again sometime. All I remember about it was that chase scene with the P-40 and the Tank.

Cheers,

David

P.S. Wasn't there also a chase scene involving an F-16 being chased in the same manner?

I actually got a copy of this flick from someone on this board a good while back, what a trip to watch again.

The tank was indeed an hvss Sherman of some type, and the second in command was that German fellow with the moustache that is still in the soaps...

P.S. It was also, more properly or not, titled "State of Division".

Looks like the Tallmantz dual control P-40. The rear canopy is painted over.

The P-40 being chased in the tV movie is now restored and flying with Kermit Weeks. It was a TP-40 and they just painted the rear canopy over for the TV Film.

BTW; you can find VHS copies on Ebay under the name "State of Divison"
It was re-titled for the Canadian VHS market. It's how I got mine. I think Roy Thinnis was in the movie also.

They actually used 4 P-40's in the movie. They used Frank Tallmans E and N models as well as my Dad's E model and Gil Macy's E model.

Thanks for the Heads Up on that Jerry! They want an arm and a leg for that VHS with prices from $65 to $140 for a used VHS. No thanks, but I'll wait for the DVD version. It has to come out eventually.
