USN.But where? JDKs pointless quiz with a point this time...

Same place, different times. Extra points for IDing the aircraft in the first pic.

Apologies for the low quality.

Cool. Vouight UO-1s!

Dunno where though. Hawaii?

Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:27 am

Not Hawaii.

Fewer palms and volcanoes; but hey, that leaves most of the world...

Thanks for the type ID, though.

Well, the second plane says Jacksonville on the side. Could that be a clue?

No. :D That's where it's from, I guess, but not where it is. (Because that would be reaaaly easy, no?)

A bad clue is that I understand that on greenbacks 'William & Jackson might shake hands'. Jacksonville's no good for where it is, 'William's' got a place close to the photo location. But not that William.

Those guys are standing in a pretty shallow bay. Sailors are only waist deep out by the furthest planes. Mobile Bay ? Pensacola ?

i got the location from the colonel....... the location is hampton roads norfolk virginia. the 1st aircraft is from the cruiser uss richmond. this base used to be a sea plane tender base.

Sorry, the Colonel may be fried, or chicken, but he's certainly wrong.

Rick H has spotted a very important point, and they're in a Bay - but not in or indeed even near the USA.

There's a clue in my posts, and it's a tough question, although I'm surprised Mike's not got it.

Manilla Bay???

Cheers,
Richard

Still cold water, Richard.

The bay in question is shallow, very large, and has a port with a dredged channel to the city. What I'm looking for is the name of the air force base where these Navy aircraft were visiting as friendly guests, but I'll take the local city as well. If you actually name the Bay the city and airfield are adjacent to, I'd be surprised.

There was a point in mentioning fried chicken because the method helps with the name. :D

Eagle Farm Airfield, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and Moreton Bay?

???

Whidbey Island :!: That seaplane base is in really cold water  :!:

UNalaska. The Richmond was the flagship of someone's fleet. I would assume it was there that this photo was taken, although that much poured concrete is a bit of a surprise.

How'd I do, James?

Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:34 pm

aw heck. No cities up there.

Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:44 pm

Someone's on the right continent, wrong place, getting warmer!

We are looking for an air force airfield with a seaplane base adjacent,

Jack's guess is wrong, but the other 50% of him's 50% of the answer. :D

There's going to self-kicking when ya get it.
