Well maybe not but it looks like the German team is set to recover the remainder of P-38s and B-17 peices up in Greenland as early as April of 08.

I haven't heard anything from the American team other than a uninforming website and a few sporatic posts here on WIX. I've sent several emails in the past asking for information regarding the teams plans and progress and have heard nothing.

Actually the German team in one of their recent updates mentioned that 2 members of the American team have independently of each other asked to join the German teams efforts.

No offense to either team I just found it Ironic that a group of aircraft sent to combat the German war machine and possibly lost due to German U-boat activity, would be recovered 60 some years later by Germans.

But like I said barring any manpower of financial issues it looks like 08 might be the year.

What's important to me is that, barring any troubles, they ARE going to be recovered regardless of who is getting them. It's far more frustrating to see recoverable aircraft in other locales where political, bureaucratic, regulatory or cultural environments prevent them from being saved.

I don't care who gets them out just as long as they get out and get put back together.

Will be interesting to see their condition 16 after GG's recovery. Hopefully they are not much worse. The B-17 are pancakes but maybe some of the parts can be used in other restorations or at the least help to finance the epidition.

I hate to say it, but I think the German effort is much better eqiupped and organized. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing these planes recovered, whoever does it.

And you know most of them will be sold off to other museums. Maybe have the intact equipment of the 17's and use them for reverse engineering and we'll be able to fabricate new parts.

I am just glad they are going to be recovered.

I like the newspaper story from 11/20/07... Where a German WWII veteran apologizes for shooting down some B-17's. He says he never hit a P-38 though.
