What is the true operational nature of a warbird?

A WWII Veteran donated his Harvard to the Alaska CAF.

In the article, reference link below, the quote below it was mentioned.

“Flying an F-15 is like driving a Ferrari,” he said “Flying this Harvard is more like flying a 1960s Corvette.”

Somehow, this quote is rubbing me the wrong way. I don't know why it is, but am curious what other people think of it.

I think...

that he should have donated it to me...although I don't really care for the T6...reminds me more of a 62 kadilack...big and squishy

Do they have to fly it to TX for display every year  :?

Ever flown one? They might look big and squishy on the outside,
but they're absolutely delightful on the controls....

Only way to have more fun with a warbird is to spend (orders of
magnitude) more money....

Car comparisons seem a bit pointless to me, although I know why people make them.

Remember no jet pilot has a sticker in the aircraft's window saying 'Car Driver' ;)

pilot talk for non pilots here. i fully understand...

I always say that very same thing.

I think I see where he's coming from (I've flown them both, too).

Personally, I think the T-6 is more of a '56 Oldsmobile with no power steering and a Chevy small block 350 under the hood.

Great car, looks sexy, was great in its day, but won't outperform the Ferrari in either the 1/4 mile or the slalom.

Makes ya kind of wonder, then, why some Ferrari/Maserati/etc owners also drive 60's vintage Vettes. Different rides, for different reasons?

Absolutely. I'm dying to own or regularly fly a T-6...and I've logged about 300 hours of F-15 time this year.

Definitely COMPLETELY different animals that are wholly interesting in their own individual ways.
