LSFM Hurricane and Fly-Day

Just wanted to throw up a few photos of the Hurricane. I'll put some more from the Fly Day up tomorrow.

I went ahead and uploaded the rest. I was shooting into the sun most of the time, so I had quite a few throw-a-ways.

I have a question for the guys at the LSFM. There were several aircraft (arrivals) that were not accessible for the general public to see (two T-34s, three Stearmans, three Chinese CJ-6s, a Cessna O-1, a C-45, and I believe, also a Luscombe); why? It would have been in my opinion, an added bonus for the public, to see all these aircraft together with the LSFM's aircraft.

It would have been so much easier to have the arrivals to taxi and park in front of the main hangar. Is this, because of liability?

The Hurricane looked great! (a first for me, as it was also seeing and visiting the PHI's Sikorsky S-92A).

I agree, that was odd. I popped down for about an hour, mainly to see the (stunning!) Hurricane take flight.

However, when I was driving back home over the bridge on 45, I looked out to the left to see no less than 4 Stearmans in formation winging their way across the water....I said to myself "where in the world were those parked", as I only saw while there the one Stearman giving rides and also the red 450. If guys didn't want the public's hands on their planes (understandable), they could have just parked them behind ropes.

I think the CJ-6s you were referring to were 2 Yak-52s and 1 Yak-50, or at least those were the planes that did the formation passes.

You are correct. I was just looking at my shots of these and one of them has lettering in cyrillic, that should read as Yak-52.

To be fair, they had somewhat limited ramp space to park the "light stuff" and
be able to allow the public to a close view of the Jug, F6F, Corsair, Hurricane, Tora birds and T-bird.
The light birds parking began just beyond the B-17 and went 'round the corner beyond
the Airboss(?) tent. I surmised that if I wanted to see those birds I could have taken the long walk
between the hangars in front of the LSFM ramp, but my back wasn't really up to it that day.

A nice show, but I was surprised at the low spectator turnout. Another surprise was Vets got in free...I
threw my 10 bux in the donation box..thanks LSFM for the great work you folks do.

Stearman 450 really sounded sweet!! I was ready to strangle the maintenance boss at Evergreen Helicopters
when he decided to do a turbine runup while the FM-2P was flying. I've heard the unique whistles and whirrs of the Wildcat before,
but my ears would have enjoyed a "refresher course". :wink:

Thanks again for a nice day LSFM and Ryan forthe photos! True enuff shooting pics into the sun was ruff,
but at least we did have sun and no rain. The Hurricane made my day... beautiful bird folks...love the color scheme :wink:

Thanks for posting the pics Ryan!!! You might have seen me running around in a golf cart in a bright yellow tshirt. We could have met up. Also thanks for the comments on Flyday.
To answer some questions...we are limited on ramp space for Flyday. During the airshow in April you will be able to walk back to the trainer ramp to get a closer look at some of the aircraft. Since the ride program was going on all day the ramp was still considered a "hot ramp". During airshow in April the rides will be before and after the show.

Attendance was about the norm for FlyDay. This is not really considered an airshow. Its more of an end of season, last time for the LSFM pilots to fly before the winter off season. We really dont advertise Flyday much.

I think I am a bit heartsick now... I wish I could've been there! I loved being there last year! What a fun time, all of the planes look gorgeous and I am happy the the B-17 was flying! Fantastic!

Yeah..thanks for clearing that up about "hot ramp". I thought about my post and
logged back on to edit and rephrase my "surmise" into a question...I figured
Tulio and DB2 had been to a full-out LSFM show and I wondered what the diff was?
You had already replied, so I went on to work.

I usually work late evenings and weekends, so I often miss most of the shows..usually catching the tailend, but
I put my foot down with the debut of the Hurricane! :lol:

Really enjoyed that..ain't seen one of them before.

As for the low attendance..that was no complaint..plenty elbow room to get photos of fireups and up
close and personal for hearing engine runups and shutdowns.

Ya'll fly the aircraft multiple times, which allows those of us so inclined to take advantage of the
lack of congestion to leave the LSFM area...drive over to the tower area to watch and listen to the a/c on
rotation and climbout...then drive back to LSFM and easily find a parking space. Really a nice experience. Again, thank you folks!!!!

Glad you were able to enjoy airnutz! Im thinking about trying out the "earlybird" photo session for the April show. Last April we had a few more takers. Its only a few weeks before we start the Airshow meetings back up. And im always open for comments or suggestions for those who have attended the LSFM airshow...just send me a PM.
