I dont know if this has been on the WIX previously but I found this site of relics on Guadalcanal while googling Sherman Tanks. Pretty neat stuff laying around there. www.guadalcanal.homestead.com/relics.html

that museum at Vilu looks interesting. any clue to how that B-24 crashed?

Thanks for posting that link.

There are some really great pictures. Also, there's some really interesting artifacts. It looks like they were just left all littered around the islands after the war.

I think it's extremely unlikely that those are A-24s. The Marines and the Navy flew SBDs out of Guadalcanal, but to my knowledge there were no A-24s operated by the Army flown from there.

Thanks, John. I just knew that there was at least one squadron of them that was assigned to the Pacific Theatre, but didn't know if any of them might have ended up there.

The A-24 saw service early...in the Java Campaign. One of them overflew the Battle of the Java Sea. Instead of releasing the P-40 escort to shoot down the Japanese spotting planes, they continued on to the transports, dropped their bombs...and missed.
