What's the status of this combat vet. I've seen on another board that
it's been sold and is headed for the UK.
P-51D-20 s/n 44-64005 376th FS 361st FG 8th AF

Several years ago (maybe around mid 2003 or so), Mike Burke called me from Cape Girrardeau, MO asking me to come and fix a faulty mag on that airplane. Fellow WIXer, Mike George, came to the rescue by supplying us with the mag we needed to get it going again.

The airplane was on it's way to the East Coast to be disassembled and shipped to the U.K., but I don't recall hearing much about it since then.

I've got pictures somewhere from that little road trip of mine, and I'll try to dig them up...but don't count on me finding them.

Early 80's - Harligen Texas, Merle Gustafson gave the "Mary Mine's" WWII pilot a real good ride  in the airplane. Came back with a bunch of oil out the breather! 8)

The official owners are now (since it was sold by Charles Kemp) Iron Baron Corp of Delaware.

My enquiries lead me to believe that is is a front for Doug Arnold's warbird collection (now run by his son).

The intention seems to have been to bring it over to the UK but no-one has seen it since Gary helped fix it - so whether it made it over to the Uk is unknown.

Most of the Arnold collection is kept in storage at the old USAF base at Greenham Common in the UK and is never seen by the the public - the owners being highly secretive.

It seems a great shame this last remaining 361st Fg combat veteran has dispeared.

Best regards

Jason

If this is the same aircraft, it is at Rockford disassembled waiting to go to Pennsylvannia for restoration.
