Lancaster at night ~ Nov 3rd 2007

Sun Nov 04, 2007 12:05 pm

The alternate thread title was ........

Who was the woman you saw last night ? Oh that was Just Jane !

Avro Lancaster NX611 is owned by two Lincolnshire county farmers, Fred and Harold Panton and now forms the central attraction at the Lincolnshire Heritage Aviation Centre. It represents a living memorial to their late brother, Chris, who was lost on his 27th operational mission while flying with RAF Bomber Command in WW2.

This is only the second night time taxi run to be performed this year and it certainly makes for a photographic challenge !

East Kirkby airfield was a tad cold at 6:30 pm on Saturday evening, but that really didn't matter when four Rolls Royce Merlin engines came to life!

In such low light my camera's autofocus refused to work and sharp manual focusing on a moving Lancaster was tricky but it was just too dark to get an image. So I had to wait until it stood still. ( Each image is an 8 second exposure ). I've deleted a lot of images because there were either fuzzy or people were moving around in the shot. These are the only TWO "half decent" pictures and they are not actually sharp ~ if I'm honest

I can see me going back for the next taxi run to try again ...... :D
