I believe this was the Mustang that I saw flown in these same markings back in the 80's, when owned by an Eastern Airlines pilot (I forget his name) It went to Europe and is now back home! I have to check my photos and video.

I neglected to get shots of the other 353rd birds, the other Dbl Tbl 2 and Cincinatti Miss (were there others?) Does anyone have shots of these?

Don Davidson from New Hampshire owned it then. Terrific guy! He was president of EAA Warbirds of America during that time. I thnk the Eastern AL Stirke was really hard on him.

For some strange reason, I thought there were 2 Double Trouble 2's? Also which P-51 from the US went to Eruope some years back and was crashed (2 fatal) in Switzerland or somewhere like that? I think some aerobatic champion and his son were killed in it?

Tom Friedkin's P-51D also wears those colors. Think it was painted this year. Both were at GML.

Yes thats him, thank you. I have video of him flying a 'heritage flight' with a Mass ANG A-10 at Barnes in '87, 10 years before there were the official heritage flights. I have to get that uploaded. I remember him also driving around a WW2 staff car at the show! Yes, right after the strike in '90 the Mustang went to Europe. I'm glad it's back!

Is "little Witch" a TF? or just the canopy? or am I mad probably just ignorant

I thought the tall tails were all TF's?? Are there other models that have this configuration?

Yep, Little Witch is a complete TF Mustang, full dual controls, extended canopy, and the taller tail which was added to some TF's.

Thank you for the photos of these Mustangs! I wonder if the presence of the two "Double Trouble Two" Mustangs made for any confusion when deciding how many Mustangs arrived at GML. One 353rd Mustang that would have been awesome to see at GML is Upupa Epops, a real 353rd example.

The late production "H" models used the tall tail; along with some Cavalier modified aircraft, and also some of the NACA birds. Check out Bill Allmons "NACA 127"...

No confusion on the part of the ramp - we *knew* there would be two Double Trouble Two's, and two Shangri-La's, and two Petie 2nd's.... only confusion was which one wanted to be towed out to go fly...
