Warbird Information Exchange

Hi gang,

Back when I graduated from high school, my engineering and technology teacher, asked me to "someday, when you are successful as a pilot, you need to bring us an old wrecked propeller to hang on the wall in the classroom!"

Well, I never became a successful commercial pilot and never pranged a prop... but I'd still like to get a prop to Mr. Greene's class. He was very much a mentor in my early years and I think he'd get a kick out of it!

Anyone have an old prop laying around collecting dust that has a bit of a story to tell? You'd be the talk of Warsaw Central High School in Warsaw, NY for years to come! Doesn't need to be anything fancy or warbird... even a metal prop from an old C-150 would be fine!

How successful did he think you were gonna be if he wanted a prop you wrecked?! Kidding...... It is was to have teachers that actually believed in you and your dreams, seems to be very rare these days.

It was great having him as a teacher in High School... in fact, he took us on field trips to Cornell Aeronautical Labs (Called CALSPAN) in Buffalo and let us observe auto crash testing and got us into the super-secret flight department where we got to crawl through the Convair TIFS (Total In Flight Simulator) aircraft and got to see a bunch of their test planes... including a T-33 with a bunch of stuff strapped on it.

He's one of those teachers that you always remember... was always giving students the opportunity to do their best no matter what. He often stayed in the labs with students until 7 PM to get projects done and even flipped his own credit card in for gas to make sure our student teams made it to the state competitions... that's dedication.

I've got a Mccauley constant-speed prop off a 172RG that had a wheels-up landing a few years back. Pilot didn't realize they weren't down until said prop was munching concrete. Only the tips are pulled back.

It's a really cool souvenier but I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with it. It has to weigh 50 lbs or more, so I guess mounting it on the wall is out of the question. I've got it leaned up in the corner (fine for now) but the baby's learning to crawl so I'll have to figure something else out.
