The man that piloted that airplane was at the 1988 Wings of Eagle airshow in Geneseo. Had some great stories to tell.

That wreck looks like it faired pretty well considering being ditched. I imagine the airframe is pretty eaten away, but it would certainly make for an interesting "as is" display in some museum. Maybe they could raise this one and trade it for Swamp Ghost. Then the PNG gov't can still have a B-17 of their own to care for and look after, while Swamp Ghost could come to the United States, Europe, or Australia/New Zealand to be preserved in flying or static restored condition.

I was thinking the same thing. It would take a large tank of electrolyte to remove all the salt stop the corrosion once on land, but the way it is it'll still rot away.

Besides divers would protest. Some because it's there livelyhood and other so they can pick it apart.
