Re-visited an air show shoot where I basically wrote off all shots due to the weather being dark and stormy and found this shot which grabbed my attention.

After some comments from fellow photographers it morphed to this.

What do ya'll think?

The original shot is good, near-perfect in fact. Every single thing that you then did to it made it less good. The final result is overcooked and very contrived. Just IMO.

Wardie,
Thank you for your post.

I also agree with k5083. I like the original shot. The original is not bad at all. IMHO.

Best Regards

The first version is good – doesn't need the contrivances. Crop it quite a bit with the spit ending up toward the lower rh side and it becomes much more dynamic.

What I think is that I wouldn't want to be flying a Spitfire in that kind of weather, probably not much else either.

Thanks all, I too prefer the original.

The comment was made that a gun camera style might enhance it so the second came about.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Wardie

PS. Bill G - maybe this is better flying weather.

I'll join the "ayes" for the first pic...."A bomber's worst nightmare"...

And, Bill...

Hows about flying a Spitfire AWAY from that kind of weather??

HEY!!

How'd that sharkmouth fall off a P-40 and end up on a Spit?? :snakeman:

I know how much you guys like P-40s with shark mouths...isn't this an outrage??!!

I gotta' go with the first pic too. Good composition. Dramatic effect.

I agree, the 1st one is better

Mudge,

It probably would be better if you keep your religious preferences out of your responses "Mudge the aesthete", if you don't want to get flamed.

Now before I get flamed...just pulling Mudge's leg.

Sasquatch - I know you're only joshin' but I prefer my shark mouths on Mk.VII Spits and my P40's plain.

This Spit is marked up as the personal mount of Wing Commander Bobby Gibbes leader of the "Grey Nurse" squadron flying Mk.VIII Spitfires in defense of Australia's northern most city, Darwin.

Bobby Gibbes also flew the P40 in the Western Desert and one of the P40's flying in Aust carries his markings that does not include a sharks mouth.
