5th Air Force B-25s

Does anyone knoe why the 5th AF removed the package guns from their strafer J models?

This is only my theory, but I would imagine weight and maintenance.

42nd BG B-25J straffers didn't carry the package guns. Few of their standard Js did also.
Their earlier B-25Gs usually had the 75mm removed with 2 x .50 in the place.
