Completed 18th December 1963.

Delivered to Barksdale 7th June 1982, presented to USAF 14th June 1983.
Info from The Vulcan Story by Tim Laming.

I guess delivered straight from service with 9 Squadron RAF.

A bit more info:

IIRC, XM606 was acquired by the USAF Museum program mainly as a "trade" for the B-52D in the possession of the IWM.

XM606 was no stranger to Barksdale, having hopped the pond and participated in more than a few aerial displays during the (then) annual HID (Holiday in Dixie) airshows at B'dale before she became a permanent static resident. I have memories of 606 nearly upside down several times with the gear sticking "up" - and not at high altitude, either. A beautiful, graceful, and quite agile machine in the air. With that huge delta platform, she could do pretty much anything ...

I still don't see how aircrew in gear got around in the cockpit ... there ain't no room in there!!
