1. What are your favorite WARBIRD acts?
2. If you could fly in a WARBIRD act - what would it be?
3. What WARBIRD act would you like to see that either does or doesn't exist yet
4. What are the BEST WARBIRD acts from the crowd's perspective... and why?

Yes, I do have some ideas of my own, but I'll answer later in the thread.

I used to love the Bob Hoover act in the P-51. I now love the Heritage and Legacy Flights.

1. Dale Snodgrass Corsair/ Mustang Solo Routines

3. Something to do with the Korean War. There are solo routines with a Corsair and Sabre but not a set act dedicated to Korean War Veterans.

4. Red Baron or Aeroshell. The crowd always enjoys an act with a lot of noise and smoke.

Another great solo is Stephen Grey. I saw him fly Hinton's Wee Willy at Chino in the 80's.
I hear Patty Wagstaff does good in the Mustang as well.

1. What are your favorite WARBIRD acts?

John Mohr puts on an incredible display with a stock PT-17. Close second would be the Horsemen P-51 act.

2. If you could fly in a WARBIRD act - what would it be?

The third P-47 in the Shoffner / Melton act... especially tearing it up at the Thunder reenactment.

3. What WARBIRD act would you like to see that either does or doesn't exist yet

I'd love to see the Four Horsemen come back with the P-51 routine... nothing like precision formation aerobatics with four P-51's. I'd also love to see an act like the Breitling Fighters here in the states... but with the key axis and allied fighters... Bf-109, Spitfire, A6M2, and P-51.

4. What are the BEST WARBIRD acts from the crowd's perspective... and why?

A well done, full Tora Tora Tora act... with a defending P-40 and "limping" B-17. All the pyro, combined with "controlled chaos" makes it a full sensory experience... see the planes, hear the explosions and gunfire, feel the concussion and the heat, and smell the smoke.[/quote]

I agree with mustangdriver regarding Bob Hoover and his Mustang performance. Very professional control of an aircraft.

I also like the airshow routine that Lefty Gardner used to put on in the "White Lightning".

Any 4 ship formation of bombers or fighters the way it really looked during the war. Chino had 4 B-25's that were flying at the same time but just couldn't get close enouth for a 4 ship formation that you could photo.

3 P-38's in Olive drab in close formation.

I saw a photo of the Gathering of Mustangs with the # 51 in the air. I would have loved to have seen that many P-51's all in 4 ship formations.

4 Hellcats in the same VF squadron markings fly by.

I'm simple about that stuff I guess.

A dream would be: 4 FW-190's or ME-109's in formation with 4 P-47's or Mustangs behind.

1. Tora without a doubt is the one that gives me the most thoughts and the one that I enjoy watching the most. Heritage flights come a close second.
2. Either in the Tora show or with two B-25s doing a short-takeoff demonstration (ie. like the Doolittle Raiders) followed by one B-25 doing a couple of 50 ft. passes while the announcer talks about the Raiders, then a pull up to 500 ft with a simulated bomb drop and pyro - followed by a couple of skydivers bailing out on the last run as the second B-25 makes a slow shallow dive away from the crowd... Both B-25s painted appropriately of course...
3. The above mentioned B-25 act. Also would like to see some more scenarios with compelling storylines and believable action to the crowd that also portrays history well.

3. What WARBIRD act would you like to see that either does or doesn't exist yet?

1. I wondered what a P2V twilight demo with the searchlight and sonabouy search pattern would look like. A P2 high-speed pass with the jets sounds awesome.

3. Heritage with WWII medium and heavy bombers and contemporaries.

John Mohr's flying makes me say "wow" everytime he puts on a show.

2. If you could fly in a WARBIRD act - what would it be?
Flying a Corsair into smaller fly-in events with no prior announcement (as long as the runway could handle it, of course) and spend the day sharing it with anyone who wanted to climb in it or talk about it.

For a crowd of the general populace, it's gotta be the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels...loud, fast, precise, beautiful, list goes on & on

1. The late Joe Frasca in his dad's P-40 (snap roll at the top of a loop, etc.). I'd also like to see Bud Granley's T-6 act in person.
2. Me-163 Komet demo (and not the glider).
3. Me-262 aerobatics.
4. Loud jets. I don't know- I don't get it! Must be the sound of victory or something.
