OK Paul, now that you've tantalized us, where's the pic? Your link just takes me to a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.

I get the following, Paul:

"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

Then the XML code is shown.

Just go to his website - http://www.paulkrumrei.com/ - click on the aircraft gallery and you will see the pictures of which he speaks - the L-5 pics are particularly nice!

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I have the latest and greatest of all the MS patches and software and sometimes a little bit older or undated PC's can do that.

Just go to www.paulkrumrei.com and check out the gallery.

Thanks!

There we go.

Very nice; thanks, Paul. What group was she with? I can't find anything about that particular A/C.

The photo is of 42-5456, a B-17F-10-BO.

It was built in December 1942 and assigned to the 419th Bomb Squadron of the 301st Bomb Group (then 12th AF) at Biskra in North Africa on New Years Day in 1943. This photo was taken at St. Donat near Constantine in late June or early July to commemorate the 100th mission flown by the 419th BS. The Fortress itself ended up with 53 total missions (last ones flying out of Lucera, Italy) with the 419th before being salvaged in July 1944.

My Dad, Ernest L. "Tommy" Thompson, was a brand new tail gunner in the 419th when the photo was taken and may have got his first combat mission in this ship training/familiarization with another crew on the day of the photo. He is the guy kneeling by the bomb on the right.

Another published photo was taken right after this one where the photographer stepped back and at least 55 419th BS airmen posed under ADELE'S ANGEL.
