I am planning my road trips to and from the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends at the end of the month. I want to see as many aviation sites along the way as possible. Of course I am using the Locator to do this. For those of you who are not familiar with the Locator, you can find the Pennsylvania entries at¡K

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=PA

As you can see the locations of displayed aircraft which are confirmed appear with map links labeled "Exact¡" and others with a high level of confidence appear as "Eye Sight". These are not the Locations I am concerned with at this point, it is the others labeled "Area" and "Town" for which I would like more details.

Since I won¡¦t have time on this trip to tour around looking for displayed aircraft where I am unsure of the locations I will be setting my route and way points depending on the confirmed locations of displayed aircraft. I recently added a number of new locations to the Locator (thanks to books by Michael Blaugher and Andy Marden, see the credits section http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocatorCredits.php), but due to poor or old satellite images in Google Earth and other services I have not been able to confirm a number of locations. As a result I am turning to WIX for assistance. Hopefully those of you on WIX familiar with Pennsylvania can help me out.

I am including a list below of sites that I could use some help with. Perhaps you can tell me if the map link is good, or should be moved to another location. To obtain coordinates of locations I recommend Google Earth, but Google Maps works as well, and to read how to do so go to...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#Maps

...and scroll down to ¡§How do I use Google Maps to get coordinates?.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I will of course be posting pictures after I get back from the trip. The more locations that can be confirmed, the more pictures will be posted!

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Mike,

You should also see the 5 planes ( AV-8, AD-1, A-6,F-14, F-18 ) in front of the Naval Inventory Control Center at Robbins and Oxford Ave in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia 19111. There is also an Air Force V-1 Clone on a stick at the American legion on Wissahickon Ave in the Germantown 19044 section of the city.

Check out Willow Grove also.

Mike, the UH-1 is not in Wysox. It is in Towanda accross the bridge from Wysox. The VFW is located on Bridge street and the UH-1 is right beside it. I'll get pictures of it one of these days for you since I live in Towanda.

Cheers,
Nathan

The coordinates for the Naval Inventory Controll point are

40*02'43,52* N

75*05'15,45* W

The ones for the JB-2 or Loon, I am not sure what one it is, are

40*01'18,38*N

75*10'34,13*W

I already have that one pinpointed in the Locator. That is why it didn't appear in my list above. Thanks anyway though.

I am also looking at two or three potential routes and only the sites along those. Nothing east of I-81 is being considered. I wish I had more time to tour PA, but one needs to draw a line sometimes.

Pictures are nice... but help me improve the coordinates! (please, please please... don't make me beg! I'll do it!) ;-)

To learn how to get coordinates go to...

...and scroll down to "How do I use Google Maps to get coordinates¨.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like it is displayed in the front yard of a school. Is it?

I will add it to the Locator tonight. It will be in the "off topic" section, but it will be there.
