Sad news received in is that George Hale the last RAAF pilot engaged in full on air-to-air combat and killed MIG-15s from the Korean War, died this week in Australia.

The Temora Aviation Museum has had their Meteor F.8 painted in his markings for the last few years now which will become the focal point to remeber his brave actions from 1953.

The orignal cockpit still exisits in Australia at a another musuem.

George Hale also had a extensive WW2 history flying Spitfires and Meteors in the last days of WW2 in Europe.

Sorry Guys.

Have to correct the glaring error.

George Hale never flew Spitfires or Meteors at the end of WWII. He graduated Dux of No.7 Post War Course at Point Cook in 1952. Flew Tiger Moths, Wirraways, Single Seat Vampires, Meteors (single and twin), later Neptunes, Dakotas, Winjeel, Twin Seat Vampire, Mustang. QANTAS civil life Dakotas, Super Connie, 707 and 747.

His funeral service is to be held at Robina, Queensland on Wed 12th Sept.

MiGs were one probable and one damaged although conventional wisdom would say that both were destroyed.

The person to whom you refer is Tony Gaze who flew Meteors with 616 squadron at the end of the war after Spitfires. Oscar Deuce has Tony's Spitfire.
