Hi folks. Been lurking here for a few years. Great reading. Thought I may as well register. I live in Milwaukee, WI, just south of Mitchell field. Lots of air traffic right over my house.See lots of the 128th Air Refueler s fly over. Before the 440th closed, lots of c130's too. They are in the process of taking down the F4 Phantom gate gaurd, to move it to the airport proper I'm told, and was also told the C119 that was on display was moved to Niagra for display there. Too bad. When I was a kid, we used to see them and lots of KC97's fly over all the time. At night you could see the flames from the exhaust, and hear the 97's coming from miles away. I have been an EAA'er for 20+ years, and always attend. Saw the Mustang crash this year, and wept. Rest his soul. Love all the pics, and info. If I had the room, I too would have a few old planes laying around. I do have a WIS ANG P51 canopy though, so I am almost there. My first question would be... Who has the B-25 that used to be in front of the airport on Howell Ave. before they replaced it with the current fiberglass replica? You used to be able to walk right up to that plane and sit on it, if you could find a spot with no bird crap. Glad to be on board. Thanks for having me.

Having been a cheesehead for most of my days, and having lived on the north side of Beertown from '87-'97, I assure you that the B-25 mounted in front of the current Mitchell Field Terminal is no fiberglass model, but is indeed the very same aircraft that used to sit out by Howell Avenue. The cosmetic work was done in a hangar of the 128th.

That's cool news about the Mustang canopy. Before his final flight west, friend and former 325th FG vet Paul Dowd was the CO of the ANG unit at Mitchell Field.

Wow. It's the same Mitchell?? I was told, obviously incorrectly, by a guy at the 440th gate that it was a repop. I'm glad to hear it's the real deal. Makes me want to go down there and check it out closer. Some day I will copy the data plate on the P51 canopy and post it on here to cut you guys loose on the ID and history. Be cool to see what turns up. Thanks for the B-25 info. Earl.

I was at Mitchel Field in 2004 and the B-25 was still there. Did it get replaced recently? Do you have a recent photo of it?

Whoa, take a deep breath Jerry. The B-25 that you saw in 2004 is still firmly in place.

What Earl (or I) was referring to was that this same Mitchell used to be mounted out on Howell Avenue, near the old entrance to the terminal. The plane was cosmetically reconditioned (early '90's maybe?) and then repositioned next to the terminal--as seen in the photo link in my earlier post (and by you in 2004).
