Warbird Information Exchange

Hello,
According to my father and my uncle, shortly after the end of WWII a B-17 was flown to the Paducah, KY airport for use by the Air Scouts of the BSA. The two-man crew removed the batteries (and radios?) but left the plane otherwise intact. It was still there in '47 when my dad left to join the Air Force but was gone by around 1950. Million-to-one chance, I know, but is there any info out there on model, serial number, etc.? My dad thinks it was olive drab; maybe a trainer from Altus? How many airplanes did the Air Scouts get?

That story sounds so familiar,
My Dad told me a story of a B-17 in Salem, Ma (The Witch City)
that he used to play in when he was a kid, later on there was a story of
the airplane in the paper.
There was some construction going on in the area where the Fort used to
be and a few people were thinking it may heve been bulldozed
right where it stood.
But apparently the airplane that had been flown into Beverly, MA (KBVY) in 1944
with the name "Miss X" and towed to a playground near the Salem
Willows Park was sold in 1947 to a salvage company from Ipswich, Ma
for $200 since by then it was well vandalized and a hazard.

I did have a newspaper photo but I dont know where it is now
