We are pleased to announce that the Yankee Air Museum's "Thunder Over Michigan" 2005 Air Show will proceed next year as scheduled.

Despite the devastating loss of our hangar and part of the museum collection this past weekend, the Board of Directors and Air Show organizers feel it would be a step backwards to cancel or postpone the event.

Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th, 2005, Thunder Over Michigan will again boast one of the largest gathering of warbirds in the country.

As in previous years, a special themed aircraft will be featured. In past years, spectators have been treated to the following gatherings of themed aircraft: Six B-25's in 2002, Four B-17's in 2003, and Twelve TBM-3E Avengers in 2004.

We are hoping to have a preliminary event web site up real soon. Keep watch at www.yankeeairmuseum.org for details forthcoming.

Blue skies and warm breezes.

Thanks for posting this notice! The question was hanging in the back of my mind, but I wasn't going to ask. I am glad to hear the CAF is pushing on.

Since you did raise the subject I will ask if you intend to hold a symposium. Of course the now destroyed hanger was the location of such events previously. I will of course understand if there will not be a symposium, but I would suggest that this is a big drawing card. The two symposiums I have attended in the past have been excellant.

Thanks again for the posting.

Regards,

Mike

Mike,
My counterpart and I definitely want to proceed with the symposium in 2005. Location is, of course, the key.
We have discussed a couple of alternatives already. Two sites on the airfield are very viable but the next 4 weeks will tell where we will be and what we can utilize at Willow Run Airport.
As we obtain more information we will be posting it on the web site.
Blue skies...
Kevin

Good news Kevin! I'll talk to Catherine tonight about booking our hotel rooms!

Mike

Kevin, Mike & Paul,

It is great to hear confirmation about the airshow so early after the fire. We are all at a loss but look forward to helping the museum rebuild and grow again.

Happy Landings,

Eric & Bernadette

Kevin--

Excellent news! I always plan my vacation around two airshows, Geneseo in July and Willow Run in August. Would've understood if the tremendous show everyone just calls "Yankee" took a one-year hiatus; am delighted you're pressing on instead.

Say, I can't help noticing the first three replies to this thread are from Canucks. Hmm. Wonder what proportion of the crowd at Thunder Over Michigan is made up of airshow-starved Frozen Northerners? But "Yankee" would be a must even if we still had a full slate of shows up here.

Might be appropriate to bring in the Lanc again, eh, given the piece of unfortunate parallel history that now links the two museums...How about making this the sometimes-suggested "British Invasion" year??

All the best

S.

I'm thinking about heading back this year. I missed last year and it looks like I really missed out. Great to hear you all are still moving farward.

I almost said "pressing On" but that is what we heard everting a pilot died in our AirWing, which was too often :( Bad memeries of that phrase.

Not to change subjects, but I keep hoping Geneseo will do this sometime since they've already had 2 Spits and a Hurricane there and the Russell collection and CWH are very close by.
