Does anyone know anything about the F4U-1 that is listed in Trade-A-Plane for sale. 80% complete, $250,000. I got a call back saying it was sold. He seemed very secretive about it. Anyone got names, BuNo, etc. The phone # was a Mn #

If the info I heard is correct, it is one of the ones pulled up from the Pacific off of Australia.

I was thinking that for $250K and 80% finished that is a SCREAMING deal - Courtesy has one, Bu No. 88090, in New Zealand that is 90% complete and they are asking 900K+

Don't think "80% complete" and "80% finished" mean quite the same thing.

I sincerely doubt it was one of those three. Craig McBurney got the two semi-complete ones which came up from off the Australian coast. The third was parted out. I was wondering though if this is the one which Ross Jowett sold on several years ago (not the FG-1D he currently is selling for 900k). It was listed for $160k back then.... and took ages to sell. It consisted of a RNZAF center section and wings, and the fuselage of a USMC F4U-1 (birdcage too!). The fuselage was supposed to have been recovered back in the 70's. It came to the States, reportedly, and then I've heard nothing more.

Cheers,
Richard

Richard has it right. He's a freind of mine and he was at the WIX gathering at Oshkosh. He is not secretive, just a modest fellow that does not care for being in the spotlight.

And before the rumors about mine fly, yes I may be selling mine too.

After the huge battle you went through to keep her, I would sure hate to see you sell her, Lex.

Now that he has ownership of her, he can sell her!
