Hey Everybody:

I saw this on Warbird Alley! I'm wondering where we can get info on these bills before they are submitted?

10 September: A new bill (H.R. 5035) was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives which, if passed, would have severely restricted all types of General Aviation in the United States. Thanks to an overwhelmingly negative response from the aviation community and other politicians, the sponsor withdrew the bill on 15 September.

Hey Tim:

The problem is the majority aren't really serving us. They serve themselves. Have you seen what the typical retirement package for a senator is? I believe it's like six and a half figures a year !!!

The US Government should be concerned about paving the roads, collecting taxes, putting out fires, defending us against the BAD guys, and doing all it can to leave the average law-abiding American the hell alone beyond that.

That's the one thing I despise about supporters of "Nanny States" and Big Government. There's always an underlying motivation to "save us from ourselves", and the propaganda from that movement is custom made for fueling the government's will to power, and stripping liberties from the average guy. Great for the lazy do-nothing/want-everything types, but horrible for the spirit of a country that is dependant on ingenuity and a sky's-the-limit mentality in order to thrive and succeed.

If I had one wish it would be for the government to find the motivation to truly decipher the difference between the will of decent men & evil men, and formulate the laws of this country to work FOR one, and AGAINST the other. It doesn't set a healthy precedent when you try to overtly affect the will of evil doers by putting the law abiding population in shackles. It DOES however provide a convenient short-sighted response when your prime motivation is based on political jockeying rather than upholding your vows to serve the people who pay you to get the job done properly.

I hate the whole concept of 'BANS' on anything. Regulations based on balanced logic are fine, and anyone operating warbirds knows there are already plenty of them. Beyond that, we all know there are still enough dumkopfs populating this country to successfully vote in politicians who believe a terrorist would honestly try to purchase and arm a P-51 before he would invest a few hundred bucks on fertilizer and a U-Haul truck.

There's a precipice of ignorance in this country, and as long as we're still cultivating leadership types from "mushroom" side of it, this annual Senatorial wake up call is going to continue.

Maybe the "evil" do-ers are at work and not for the "cause of keeping us safe from the Evil do-ers". Just my 2-cents.

My 2¢ worth… a couple quotes I’ve collected:

The people always have some champion whom they set over them and nurse into greatness. This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector. - Plato

and,

The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over its government. – Franklin D. Roosevelt
