Thought you were calling me for a minute there :D

Nice pics, It's only in recent times that the Vietnam-era is gaining widespread interest.

Cheers,
Matt

Take it to another forum Mudge.

Yeah I'm real waiting with baited breathe for a Jolly Green SAR team to hit the air show circuit.

Anybody notice the painted over markings? I'm not sure how common practice it was but i heard alot of Jolly Greens had their national markings painted over. I forget the exact reason....anybody? anybody?

some of the 20th Green Pythons i think there were? used black HH-3Es for night and special runs into NVN and Laos etc.

They had all natioanl insignia removed and sometime normal JGG also had it removed not sure why tho

G'day Mudge,

Yeah, that's my 1915 Lithgow SMLE in my avatar. I'll start up a thread in the off-topic forum about it, seems like gun talk isn't allowed here.

Cheers,
Matt

I believe the U-shaped green area on the aft fuselage is aluminum channel that makes a card-holding slot for the US insignia. A lot easier than painting and re-painting at will. I believe many late-model A-1s are also missing US insignia.

I seem to recall a similar U shaped channel on the side of some of the Aussie-registered and restored Trojans, to allow quick identity changes.

Cheers,
Matt
