Just a quick note to say that I have added some photos to the VWoC photo albums and made the Corsair and Lysander albums available. All can be found via...

Mike, I didn't realize the Lysander had gone to Vintage Wings. I saw it in Saskatoon last August. I guess it will not be there this weekend. Thanks for posting the photos. How are they doing with Harry's Hurricane? Tien.

When the team got into the deep inspection/survey they found corrosion on the spar. Harry saw it during his visit last May and agreed it needed to be replaced. The wing box (spar) is currently in Ottawa having a jig made. When the jig is ready and in the hangar they can begin the deconstruction and reconstruction. When the box is in reinstalled the reassembly of the airframe can begin. 5447 barely looks like a Hurricane right now. For pictures follow the link I gave and click "H" in the page navigation bar to go to "Hawker". You will find the link to the 5447 photo album there with the latest pictures. Although a bit dated now, those pictures still represent the current state of the airframe. The plan was to have the plane flying for the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada in 2009, but that may not happen with the delay due to the spar.
As for the Lizzie a similar inspection will be taking place. VWC is currently focused on the flying season. I should know more about plans for the Lizzie this fall.

I forgot to mention that you can add yourself to my VWoC email distribution list so you don't miss any VWC news if you miss my posts on WIX. Go to...

It's painted up as a target tug. The bumble bee scheme was typical of commonwealth target tugs of the time. i believe that this aircraft actually served as a target tug also.
Cheers,

Here is a small picture...
The inspection will more than likely involve the removal of the majority, if not all, of the fabric skins (at least that was the case with the Hurricane). This of course means that it will need to be repainted. Although I don't think the VWC researchers have gone too deep into research yet, I think it is safe to say it won't be returning to it's bumble bee scheme. In my opinion having the CWH relatively close (globally speaking) with a Lizzie in the same scheme doesn't make sense. Since VWC is about telling the stories, commemorating the veterans and inspiring youth, VWC will likely try to tell a slightly different story than CWH (so more different stories are told). I would guess they will be choosing a SOE scheme. When I hear for sure you will hear.

Mike et al--
Will be interesting if Mr P goes for a "moonship" scheme on the Lizzie, since CWH started to do theirs that way then switched to TT colours!
Re Saskatchewan, I think I'm correct in saying that the Whereatts had TWO Lizzies, and the second one is still in SK (but with a different owner).

As I understand it the Whereatts had two relatively intact Lizzies, and up to six other airframes/IDs used as parts sources. Of the two intact examples one is now at VWoC. The other went to Kermit Weeks years ago, and I think is now in the UK.

I noticed on the Warbird Depot website that VWoC have acquired a second Corsair. Any word on when this aircraft will arrive in Gatineau?
Thanks

I have been dodging this subject as best as I could for a while now. Some of you are very good at asking pointed questions at airshows!

Yes... you know who you are!!!

In the end I try not to talk until Mr. Potter has given the thumbs up. Sometimes it is not so easy with all of the reports, and mis-reports, that come out on the net and in print (Warbird Depot got it right). I am sure Mr. P. has his reasons for holding back as he is a level headed guy. In the end you will get to hear about and view the aircraft and there will be no long-kept secrets.
To find a copy of the press release I wrote and was given the green light to distribute today, go to this thread...
