Hello,

Any news on Kermit Week's Tempest which was under restoration to fly in the UK? She was supposed to be close to being done a few years ago.

Engine issues, I assume? Any idea of this important project is still underway?

Does Kermit Weeks have two Tempest projects? I know he has the second prototype Tempest II, LA607, ex-Peter Thomas/Skyfame Museum; that one is statically restored and I think it's on loan to a museum at Lakeland, Florida. But the notion that Mr Weeks has a Mk.V project as well, or maybe one of the (all too few) ex-Indian Mk.IIs, does ring a bell.

Geez, up on my soapbox yet again tonight...Someone ought to make use of the engineering already done for the rather similar Fury/Sea Fury, and get a Tempest II into the air with an R3350 up front...I'd do it myself, but I'm one of those individuals with loads of passion but zero money that have been mentioned in other threads. At least I can take solace in the fact that I sure ain't alone!

He's had a composite Mk V project on slow-time rebuild with PPS at Booker for many, many years ago now. I remember the Hannas looking at it over 20 years ago now and that deciding it was too ambitious for them, and then Kermit took it on.

Fuselage from a Mk V out of a Dutch tech school IIRC, a wartime shoot-down, and Mk II wings ex-India I believe.

Not sure what the latest is, or whether it is planned to be an airworthy-standard rebuild intended for museum display or a true flyer.
