Does anyone have a paint code number for the blue color on the star and bar? I am using Dupont but can probably cross reference other brands. It is for WWII TBM circa 1945. Thanks, Charlie Cartledge

Do you have the PPG # for Dark Sea Blue by chance?

I've seen sources that list different spec codes for the time period in question. I don't have my copy of the Offical Guide to USN & USMC markings and colors handy, but it is probably the best reference available.

The following url also has a lot of good info: http://www.chandelle-jah.com/camocolors.html , including the CYMK breakdown for the color, as well as the spec that was in effect at the time.

Hope this helps,

Craig C.

Sorry, I don't have a paint code for that color. Matter of fact, the only other PPG code I have is:

Insignia Yellow (FS595 33538)
PPG DCC 82753 modified per the follwing:

DMC 900 146.5
DMC 905 591.2
DMC 908 481.1
DMC 907 12.2
DMC 902 0.4

That's handy because I need those codes to finish painting this:

Your not giving up eh? :)

'Dark Sea Blue' never actually existed as an official US military aircraft colour in the 20th century! The term is, I suspect, a colloquial reference to 'Glossy Sea Blue', a very dark navy blue. This color also has two derivations, 'Semi-gloss Sea Blue' and 'Non-Specular Sea Blue' (a flat version of the same shade). The 'Glossy Sea Blue' often looks distincltly darker than the others and this is due to the intensifying 'depth' of the gloss pigment versus the less reflective qualities of the other flatter and flat versions but they are essentially the same color.
