Does anyone know what happened to the Japanese Tony(s)
that were brought back to the states for evaluation?
Do any survive today? I know Kermit Weeks has a Tony
but I believe I remember it was a post war island recovery.

Without consulting the excellent 'War Prizes' by Phil Butler, they were all scrapped IIRC.
There is however some Tony 'action' going on at Precision Aerospace in Oz which includes Kermit's example. Major update in the next issue of Classic Wings (PM me your postal addy)

Hi Owen,
A single TONY was brought to the old 48 states during the war. This plane had been captured in New Guinea and test flown by the US Navy. Enroute to the US Army facility the plane belly landed in a farmer's field. As the Allied tech intel folks had a new test facility in the Philippines, there was no need to make repairs to this state side "New Guinea" Ki-61.
HTH,
David

A single Tony? I did not know that. Tue. I was looking
through the log book of a PAX River aviator and he had
flown it. I did not realize there was only one. He had a
great story about the engine seizing in flight and making
a dead stick landing.
