TEXAS RAIDERS - Progress Report and Dirty Little Secret

Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:36 pm

So many Volunteers have done so much work.
And me without a digital camera!

The Elevators have been re-hung.

The forward gas tanks have been re-installed and the GREAT news is no corrossion was found on the inside of the wings. The team handling that was last seen installing fuel pumps and tweeking stuff.
And someone came up with the brilliant idea of taking the under-wing panels to the car wash to blast out all the scurf that had been built up there.

The Control Team (they made me stop calling them Control Freaks! :( )
has been installing various replacement pulleys and making things...controllable!

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
If you don't change the air-filters they get about the consistency of meat-loaf in their triangular holders!
But that team has been changing them and putting new blow-out panels on the air-filter holders.

The engine nacelle fire-walls on #2 and #4 have had new stainless steel stiffening panels installed.

The tailwheel assembley was swapped out for one in better condition.

The engine team has been pre-oiling and turning over the Wright Cyclones. They have a pretty spiffy cart made up with the pump to make sure the oil galleries and bearings are all oiled and the job goes extra messy!

And some inroads have been made in installing some radios and identifying the spare radios.

More replacement Gussets have been hock-bolted in.

I know I'm forgetting something BUT...

Darn... Gotta Go back to work,

SPANNER

OK guys and gals.... If all goes to plan next, Steph, Butch, and myself will venture down to Mr Aronson's hanger on Tuesday night, take pictures, and work on the bird.......... The one problem might be that the plans have not been working out lately, but we will try once again..... Spanner, I'll get in touch with Barbara and Art and let them know about our plans.... If anyone (John Peters) etc... has any requests, please post after this entry and I will do my best. Also if anyone has pics they want me to take for parts (that might be for sale), again, please post. I will do all that I can to accomodate all requests...... Alan

I will be there tonight.

I have a list of stuff people have been wanting to see, parts-wise and now progress-wise.
Some of them even have to do with turrets!!! :D

I am such a Luddite I am still shooting pictures on film, video on tape and honestly since my hot water quit last Sunday... taking cold showers!

As far as when she will fly again...
When she is safe!!!

But if it's any indication, I am noticing people who haven't been around for awhile coming back around for the sprint to the end.

And it helps having them! :D :D :D
