Wednesday we picked up one of our MC-130E's from Crestview Air Port after having a Mod completed on it. While waiting for the bird to launch, I noticed a militray jet parked with the civilian aircraft. Asked someone about it and found out it was a Mig that came in around Christmas time. No ideal as to what type. All I got was a front profile from a good distance. All I could tell was that it was silver/natural in color with a red nose.

It was parked at Bob Sykes Air Port in Crestview Florida.

Found out today it's a Mig-21, still don't know who owns it though.

Here is a photo of subject MIG-21 at Crestview, Florida. Only number I found on it was 4007 on the plate on the tail.

I saw several MiGs on my last trip to the US. They were MiG 15s, 17s and 21s, both single seat and trainer but I never saw a MiG 19. Does anybody know if the type was imported by America and if so do any of them fly?

I know of at least one collector who was working toward importing a MiG-19 into the US as of about a year ago. I haven't heard anything about it recently though.

Fingers crossed, then! The FARMER seems to be a rare bird and it would be a pleasure to see such a significant type flying again.

I don't know of any potential flyers, but NMUSAF also has a static Mig-19:

John,
This a two-seat MiG-21. Assuming the engine cover is correct, the only 4007 I know of in the USA is ex Polish MiG-21US 4007, which was with the Tennessee Museum of Aviation at Sevierville. Anyone know if it is still there?

Dave,
Thanks for that, looking at the pictures I think we can assume it is not the same aircraft.
Another possibility is 4608/N9149F. This was for sale on Ebay in May06, located at Xenon OH.

Maybe it's been reported, but Major Surplus & Survival has a Mig-21 for sale.

http://www.majorsurplus.com/Russian-MIG ... 14908.aspx

They emailed me a 10% off coupon code. I wonder if it applies to the MIG....

I like that you can either add the MiG to your basket or your wishlist. The description, btw, notes that it comes without a jet. It's already marked down to $25,000 (from $45,000). Could be the perfect Father's Day gift....

Wasn't there a moratorium on jet warbird importation? If it's been lifted, that's great news. :D
