Air to Air Missile kill

Greetings
I was wondering a two part ? When and what type of Air plane was given credit on shooting down aposing Airplane Was it in WW2 ? Or Korea ? Was it the Germans shooting down Bombers ? or was it Dogfighting in Viet Nam Sooooooo many ? And in advance I want to thank every body that resonds to my ?'s of past postings I have learnd so much .

if I remember correctly it was an F-4 in Vietnam with a Sidewinder missle.

Rockets or missles?
ME-262 used unguided rockets against B-17 s and B-24s with limited success.
How many B-17s & F6Fs were downed with early sidewinders in the testing stages in the early 50s.

Then again, are you talking about dogfight, or bomber attack.

A missile is smart - it is guided to a target. The Sidewinder, Sparrow, AMRAAM, etc. are considered missiles. The first air to air kill with a missile was probably in a Taiwan vs China spat in the '50's.

A rocket is dumb, it is pointed at the target and launched, with no additional guidance. The Genie and Mighty Mouse are examples of air to air rockets. The first air to air rocket kill was probably an observation balloon in WWI. If you don't consider shooting a gas bag a kill, then fast forward to WWII when the Germans had numerous air to air kills with rockets vs bombers in WWII.

I believe the first air to air "kill" with a self guiding missile was in that spat between China and Tiawan. An F-86 nailed a Chi-comm Mig with an AIM-9B or C. At the time, I don't think the USAF even acknowleged it HAD Heat Seekers....they were shipped to Tiawan in secret. The Russians got ahold of one later on anyway and promptly copied it.

Maj Mike Chien was the pilot I think...he's also a P-47 ace.
