So there I was!!

I Coach my son's Little League team, and on Saturday we were playing a game, our team was at bat, and I am standing on 3rd base coaching our runners, and I can hear the rumble of radial engines approaching from behind me, and I cannot take my eyes off of the batter for fear of getting hit by the ball. My wife is up in the stands in the direction I am looking trying to get my attention, all the while the sound is getting closer. Finally the batter hits the ball and once the play is over I can now see that its the B-17 from Yankee Air Museum. The Game basically stopped till they passed by. About a half hour later they came back over and play stopped again. Very Very Cool.

isn't it funny no matter where you are, or what you are doing, you hear them darn engines and your start to scan the sky like your looking for an air raid.

Hell sometimes I will be sitting in my office at work here in St. Paul, I will hear the T-6 or even Miss Mitchell's engines and I will run out side, knocking over anyone in my way, and start to scan the sky just to get a 15 second AH, COOL break!

I kept thinking of that scene in Strategic Air Command.

Similar story from my own little league days, probably 1971. Playing first base when I hear the sounds of engines over head. Trying to keep my head in the game but glancing up between pitches. What do I see? 3 B17s in formation headed north to fight the forest fires.

Oh how I wanted to be on one :)

was home last week, took my mom to lunch and was just about home in the car when through the sun roof driving, heard and looked up at my uncles H18 headed south at about 3,000 ft.

About 30 min later, was talking to mom at the house and had to excuse myself to go out on the porch to have him head over the top of the house at 1500............................gotta love em.

Easy way to turn $$$$$$ into noise.

Phil,

We were ahead by one going into the bottom of the last inning, and the other team got 2 runs in and we lost. Even though we lost my day was still complete.

Had several parents come up to me after the game, and never mentioned the game at all, only wanted to know what kind of plane it was that flew over.

I had that same feeling the other day, well kind of....

I was sitting in the car at the local package store, waiting for Shannon to come back from buying a bottle of wine for her brother for his birthday.
I heard this sound of an airplane off in the distance. I closed the windows and ducked under the dash, the sound was horrible. I was told a few weeks ago, just before seeing the Piaggio Avanti we were working on depart for its first flight with a new engine, that they sound like a giant mosquito. They Do! I heard this one about 4 miles out and that terrible screeching buzz was getting closer. AAAAHHHHH!

When the Collings folks come to town, they do a loop that goes over my house. I remember one year getting in late the previous evening and as I was sleeping in I heard a distinctive sound "Radial Engines", I thought. I ran over to the window, yanked up the shade in time to see Nine-O-Nine coming over the backyard. I'd say that's the second best thing for one to wake up to in the morning. :D

Last fall, I was in the backyard putting together a swingset for my daughter. I heard the sound again. My head began scanning the horizon looking for the source of the sound, and then over the tree line came Nine-O-Nine. I began jumping up and down like a little kid. Woo hoo!

Haha, when Liberty Bell was at Mount Comfort over Father's Day, a guy said he went up during a check-ride and they did two complete spins to both sides. Pretty aggresive check-ride if ya' ask me!

I was out grillin the other day and heard my favorite engine, the 2800. So I looked up and the Harpoon "Hot Stuff" flew right over my house and just made a turn, I watched it fly off into the distance, that was kinda neat.
