National Archeology organization

It has been proposed by a certain Mainer that a national archeology organization be formed to work out a unified historical aviation artifact policy that could be used to help NMNA and other goverment organizations develop a fair and balanced position regarding warbird recovery and preservation.

We invite all interested individuals to comment and especially those who are involved in recovery and preservation of these historical aircraft.


If there is sufficient response I will create a dedicated forum for this subject.

Don't forget the US Department of State and the former "Lend-Lease" and "Military Assistance Program" importation issue whereby aircraft supplied to other countries under those programs are not importable back to the US without special dispensation. Why this is still enforced 50 years after the fact is beyond me...

with all the reckless wreckchasing & international bitching i'd say it's a good idea. a big wallet is not the only prerequisite for a responsible & respectable warbird recovery from the boondocks, ocean, etc.

I know this is not the exact direction of this old thread...but...

I think aircraft under these circumstances should be treated the same as firearms...Set up an organization like the Civilian Marksmanship Program as a clearing house and use the proceeds to help fund the national aviation museums.

I know there are not a million aircraft like there are rifles...but the rules should be the same for all of the military equipment. Jeeps, trucks, humvees, airplanes, file cabinets...etc. The GSA should be open to the public, make some cash instead of trashing everything.

Ha ha! History minor--I switched from history to Anthro and already have the minor so...

BTW there are obvious safety issues with opening the GSA to everything the military has decided it doesn't need. Could you imagine all of the fighter aircraft ever DX'd being in civilian hands? We'd have "twin towers" as a monthly event just due to mass incompetance. A little filration doesn't hurt. Moderation

Thanks, Scott. Obviously it will be a while before I finish my degree, but as I was considering doing Forensic anthro in order to work on site recoveries, this might well be a new line of thought.
