A Good Reason To Play Hooky Monday

A good reason to play hooky Monday.

This Monday at CMA our ramp will as always be the staging area for the QB air show. This event is not publicized and is very exclusive. I however love to share so I invite all WIXERS to come out and play. This will be my fourth year of working the show on the ramp. Unless you are a member or invited you can’t see any of the show as it is held several miles from CMA over a ranch. You can however hang out at the ramp and see some wonderful war birds fly in and out during the performance. You never know what will show up. I will be working the ramp from 1000 hrs until late afternoon. Our museum will be open during the event so come on out. Anything and I mean anything can show up on the ramp. Chino usually sends several planes over. I don’t know who or how many birds will be there and we always have to worry about the danged fog but it’s worth taking a chance on.

I just talked to the ramp boss and he tells me that a special aircraft may make an appearance. I can’t say more and you must remember that FOG this time of the year is ALWAYS an issue in the Chino and Camarillo area so some aircraft might not make it out. He also wants to say all are welcome as long as you stay clear of the aircraft operations and don’t get in the way. If folks start spilling onto the taxiways the Feds will shut us down so bring your cameras and be cool.

I've already been granted the day off. I will be there about 10:30-11ish with camera in tow. I may be doing an article about it as well.

Wow, QB on the West Coast know how to throw a party... about the most our hangar does is throw a fly-in clam bake in the summer.

I'll have to make a point of coming out one of these years.

Dan, I would chop my left leg off to be there. Could I come?

No limb-loss necessary. Come on out, muddy boots. If you look for the guy with a red fokker on the back of his shirt, that's me. I can also direct you to Dan and some of the other fine folks at the CAF.

And it was a heck of a day! I[m afraid I had to leave a bit early but I was able to watch a beautiful B-17 land whie I ate on the patio...And then thE SBD and Warhawk! I spent the day just walking in circles, and was lucky enough to have Eric sort of explain things to me. In fact, everyone was into explaining what was going on--I and my two guests were made VERY welcome!

To Dan, Gary, Eric and basically everyone who made us feel so at home: thanks a miilion!

Glad you enjoyed it. I had a blast too. I am going through the 1620 pictures I took yesterday and will get those posted on the website by the weekend.

After we put the toys away we had a wonderful little BBQ and a few ice cold bottles of beer. Life is good!
