Five landings. All were a lot better than most of my previous ones. Went up to Martinsburg again to do some more "controlled airport" work. Now that I kinda' know what to expect to hear from the tower, they're a lot easier to understand. Did make one error, though. First approach was using right pattern. No problem. Made my touch and go and the tower asked if I was staying in the pattern. I told him I was gonna' do one more T&G and depart.
His reply, "Left traffic." I thought he was telling me that here was traffic on my left and I started to go to the right again, like I'd done the first time. My instructor had to tell me that the pattern had changed and it was now left instead of right.
Instructor told me to do a forward slip to the landing and I did OK with that. I told him I was getting a little more comfortable with what I could do with the rudders. His reply, "OK, let's go back to Winchester using only the rudders and trim. WITH THE INSTRUMENTS COVERED
I gotta' admit, I did good. The rudder control was pretty easy. I had a tough time controlling the pitch with the trim wheel for a while but finally got the rhythm. He told me I couldn't touch the yoke until I was on base leg. It was actually kinda' fun.

Also did some maneuvers in between landings. 45 degree S turns. I "done good" on those.
Climbing stalls while turning. Didn't do those too well.

He did give me my "basic airman" endorsement though. Said we'll go up one more time before I solo.

Mudge the basic

Good stuff Mudge,

All of the ATC lingo will come with time. Eventually you'll get a really good feel for what they're going to say and you'll be able to anticipate things, and know what to expect you'll have to do in given situations.

Happy flying Mudge!!!

Cheers,

David
