It's so sad that something this tragic has to happen to anyone. I know we're all praying for Jack and his family.
The loss of a personal collection of historical information and artifacts can be more devastating to an individual than to the aviation community as a whole.

I went back to some old posts refering to WIX'ers favorite reference books.

Jack's list was this:

Barrett Tillmans US Navy fighter squadrons of WWII
Frank Olynyk's Stars and Bars
Frank Olynyk's Aerial Victory Credits all volumes.

I'm sure he had much more than those three, but the question in the thread had been the "most often used" reference books.

Perhaps as a group, we might be able to help Jack rebuild some of his library?

I don't have any of those particular books, but I want to send him others from my collection, and will as soon as he might be ready to receive them.

What does everyone think about this?

Jack has posted A LOT of pictures during the last couple months. Can't anyone go back threw the threads and save them? Naturally they won't be originals but you will have them.

All pictures that are still on WIX are being hosted on the photobucket server or other server that Jack uses to post pictures. If the pictures still shows up, that means it is still on the server so it should be relatively easy for him to retrieve those photos through his account. Unfortunately like you say they are not the originals. Any printed photos that he has sold would be a good source for a hi-res scan. Still not an original, but most likely better than "internet" quality.

Also, as far as helping out there are some items still in the "how can we help" thread for auction with proceeds going towards helping Jack.

I like this book thread because I have a ton of aviation books that just sit on my shelves collecting dust. I would love to see them go to a good home.

The 1946 book "A Pictorical History of the Second World War - Vol. 7 - The USAAF in Action" has a large number of the pics Jack has posted, along with some great captions. It is a neat read.

I have a copy my grandfather gave me, so won't be parting with it, but just found a copy on eBay and purchased it for Jack.

What would be the best way to get it to Jack (along with any other books) once everything settles down?

also got many spare OOP books I can throw in - and thousands of photographs....

will do a list of books soonest
