Looking for pictures of a C-47

from the 100th squadron, 441st Troop Carrier Group. They were used on D Day, Holland and Bastogne.

Any pictures would be appreciated.

I don't have any, but you might also look at C-53s. The 441st used both and the only noticeable difference is that the C-53 didn't have the cargo door, just the standard troop door.

The image below shows a C-53, and you can see the smaller door. It is painted in the likeness of the C-53 that Bob Hope used for a USO tour, but this particular C-53 performed 2 missions on D-Day. It also flew missions into Bastogne and during Operation Varsity.

If you search for C-47 photos you will find that the 442nd Squadrons carried the following numbers,

303rd J-7

304th V-4

395th 4-J

306th 7-H

Any picture of the planes with one of these codes will be from the 442st.

SORRY I made a mistake in typing the codes the above are from the 442nd.

The 441sts were

99th 3-J

100th 8-C

301st Z-4

302 2-H

based at Merryfield.

My appologies for the mistake. I don't have any photos of 100th TCC planes. The 8-C code will help you narrow your search.

I will check around and see what I can dig up in the Airborne community.

Thanks for the picture.

I found a website that gave me the same codes for 441st. Only problem is another website list:

99 squad.
100 squad
301 squad
302 squad.

Person I was researching was lost on 12/23/44, 100 squad.

Anybody have any clues on this.
