So I got my latest issue of Warbirds International, and it stars the amazing P-47 "No Guts, No Glory".

Though i didn't know it was finished at fighter rebuilders in Chino in 1985. It was also finished in an interesting paint scheme.

My question is what markings were first put on the P-47 when she was rolled out? There are a few pics of it in the magazine, and i was thinking about trying to build a model of it.

Thanks!

Both taken early 1986 on arrival at Duxford.

Thanks Mike, appreciate it. Do you know what squadron wore those markings?

Looks like left over paint from Bob Pond's P-47 to me!

So I guess it was painted as Hairless Joe at one time as well? That is what I gathered form the article.

It was partially painted as 'Tarheel Hal' when it arrived at Fighter Rebuilders for completion. I believe that the '19' scheme was a temporary scheme applied for test flying at Chino, with the intention always being to apply a more permanent scheme once it arrived at Duxford.
