Anyone know which P-51 this is? Fighter Rebuilders hangar at Chino, mid 1991. It is not 45-11582; I have a pic of that from the same day.

As shiny as it is, that would have been my first guess. As I recall, Sandberg's entire plane was reskinned (kind of unusual for back then). If so, it would be this one ("Platinum Plus"):

Also came across this tribute to John Sandberg which I thought was moving:

Thanks guys, that seems a pretty good guess. I note the absence of gun fairings which also fits.

I'm pretty sure that's the TF that Steve had the Mag failure in a few years ago and bellied into a field. I think it's Tom Friedkin's. That or Steven Grey's.

JCP, note that the photo is from 1991, not recent!

BDK you are correct. I maintain this aircraft. It's fun to see an earlier picture of the restoration.

When Fighter Rebuilders built this A/C they had to order special over-length sheets of aluminum for the sides of the fuselage. JRS didn't like the joint between the fuselage and the tailcone!

Is the airplane still like that?
