I just met a gentleman from Bedforshire on the beach and he wanted to know if anybody actually knew what the "RB" in the RB.211 stood for?
Anybody?
He says he knows but I'm not sure.

Rolls Barnoldswick.
Barnodldswick is a town in the midlands (of th UK)
Rolls Royce has/had a design office there.

Don't shoot me if I 'm wrong but I thought it stands for : Rolls-Royce BMW. I believe BMW have a stake in the engine department as well. But I'm not 100 % sure.

The Rolls/BMW tie up came long after the RB211. In fact the engines they designed together was designated BR***'s
I wonder why they named every engine up to and after the RB211 after a British river, but not the RB211?

Maybe because the RB211 was designed for the US Market (Lockheed + Boeing)???



btw, ive never heard of a river called the V2500 before!

We always said in the airline industry that it stood for Runs Backwards. British and all turning the wrong way with the Lucas Electrical systems!

Barnoldswick was the original Rover factory set up to produce the Whittle engine. It came into the Rolls-Royce fold when they swapped the Meteor factory in Nottingham for it.
